An ode to Van Gogh
To round out an evening at the LAB dedicated to 3D Printing that included demonstrations from the Printrbot Jr. as well as WB Engineering’s 3D Systems Cube and a presentation by Pixil 3D , learn about a prototype artificial ear made out of an antenna and 3D printed cells. Michael McAlpine and his team have created an ear that can pick up radio waves. Eventually the ear could even attach to human nerve endings.

Michela Milani uses food scraps, like peanut shells, to create environmentally friendly dishes. Her Foodscapes are a much greener replacement to plastic or paper and encourage the conversation between food and consumption to veer toward more conservative horizons.

Harvard and MIT have partnered, offering EdX, an online course platform that can grade essays right away. While students can benefit from instant feedback, this will enflame traditional opinions against automation in education. With automated grading systems for multiple-choice and true-and-false answers already in widespread use, it is only a manner of time before intelligent technology to grade written submissions takes hold.
