Art for your Ears

What better way to consummate a day of relishing in the art at Miami’s Art Basel than going to check out some live music! You can catch  Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor and Neon Indian on Friday, December 7 at Bardot for a more intimate musical experience. If you are interested in a more interactive musical performance, you should check out Flying Lotus and Dan Deacon at Grand Central on Saturday, December 8. Known for his live performances, musician and composer Dan Deacon takes audience participation to the next level with the creation of an interactive audience performance app for smart phones. In a recent interview, Deacon  says that “for a while [he has] been thinking of new ways to recontextualize the audience and making them the performers or focal points of the performance”. The Dan Deacon Smartphone App enables Deacon to synchronize light and sound on the phones of audience members based on their various locations in the venue.

Don’t miss the exhibition on view at the MAM right now. It is a collection of pieces by artists that are inspired by the vinyl record. The Record will be on view until June but there are several events coming up. Like a panel discussion on May 3rd hosted by the owner of Sweat Records entitled, “The History of Record Making in Miami”.  You can also listen to playlists inspired by the exhibit on the MAM website here. Rachel Goodrich playing in Miami tonight

Miami’s own talented songstress, Rachel Goodrich will be playing at the Vagabond tonight. The show was moved from Bayfront Park due to the threat of rain. Indoors or out, this is a show worth seeing. Her unique shakeabilly style isn’t typically associated with the Magic City, but she is undoubtedly one of our best musical exports. She was just profiled by VOGUE. New World Symphony Mini Concerts this weekend! Friday and Saturday you can enjoy 30 minute shows of classical music for only $2.50. Perfect for those that don’t have the time, energy or money to sit through a whole concerto but still want a little culture in their lives. Listen to some Beethoven then go out. Now that’s a classy pre game. Oh and there is an after party at the Catalina Hotel Pool lounge with wine, hors d’oeuvres and musical tribute to Etta James. Buy tickets here.

It’s Hit Week in Miami, a traveling Italian music festival. Miami joins New York and Los Angeles as a host city. The festival aims to promote contemporary Italian music, whether it be techno, rock, alternative, dance, etc. to the rest of the world. All weekend long you can enjoy shows at the PAX and Grand Central. A perfect  way to import all the coolness from the land of Nutella and linguine.
